Personal Goals

As I mentioned before, I started a food journal as a way to stay accountable for what I have been eating. I've also been using the journal to keep track of other goals or ideas. I came up with the following list of goals the other night in my hotel room in Denver...

* Finish all homework by Monday night *
(I'm already going to default on this one this week, but I'm choosing to watch 24 with my husband instead... I'll start this goal next week!)

* Continue with the no soda drinking *
(This one has been WAY easier than I ever expected! I can't even explain all the benefits I've noticed as a result of eliminating soda and drinking mainly water.)

* Work out at least 5 times a week *
(This can be anything from a kick-butt cardio to a quick 20 minute strength training routine, just something to keep moving and get healthy!)

* Continue food journal *
(This is something else that I have been pleasantly surprised by, I've been taking it very seriously and really noticed a difference in how much less I snack.)

* Read one book for pleasure a month *
(I miss reading for pleasure so much, I used to read at least a book a week. I'm going to dedicate my travel time as "me" time when it comes to reading. I'm currently working on Twilight.)

* Spend more time alone with Rick (1-2 date nights a month) *
(We have been slacking on our date nights, something that is difficult when I'm out of town most weekends and in class one night a week. This will be a fun goal to fulfill!)

* More one-on-one time with the kids *
(Again, a fun goal to follow through with! Who wouldn't want to spend more one-on-one time with their kids and/or husband?!)

* Start a good devotional *
(I won't have to go very far for this one, I have some great devotionals on my bookshelf, it's just a matter of picking one and sticking with it.)

* Reduce my body fat percentage *
(Ugh... I'm realizing how I can weigh the same as I did before kids, but have a completely different body!)

* Run a marathon in October *
(Both Portland and the Tri-Cities hold their marathons in October, now I just have to decide if I want to run with a huge crowd (Portland) or a really small crowd (Tri-Cities). I have a feeling I know which one I will go with, but what do you think? Vote on the sidebar!)

Okay, now they are out there for all the world to see... well, at least all of you who read this blog.

Good for you! These are all great goals... I could learn something from you about exercise!!

PS go for the one in the TC... I would look at the farmer's almanac for weather patterns on that day... I bet TC has a lower chance of rain!

Great goals! And some of those are on my to-do list too....like reading. I miss reading.

And just so you know....you inspired me with mention of your food journal a few days ago. I started an online one in the form of a blog. Just a place to keep track of it all....and you are right....it really makes a difference in the snacking department because I am more aware of my intake.

As for the marathon....I vote for Portland. See you there (maybe)

Those are great goals! I'm sure some of them will be more fun to stick to than others, but all will be rewarding! I completely know what you mean about the weight/body fat issue--nothing is quite the same after having kids. When I lost 25 lbs last year, I was obsessed with the number on the scale or a certain pants size, but it just never worked out the way I wanted! It's all about the inches--lean muscle and less fat. :-) Wow--running a marathon?! You're a ROCK STAR!

That's a lot of stuff for a busy mom to tackle. Good luck, I bet you'll find a way. :)

I think these are very ambitious and great choices for goals. I applaud you, I don't know how you do everything. My favorites are date nights with the husband (something that gets lost in the shuffle of kids) and reading a book for pleasure. Between parenting books, homeschool books, and children's books, I know that I'd love to. Someday hope to run a marathon as well. I haven't run hardly a day since college.

I hear you on the body shape thing. It can be very discouraging. Keep up the good work on the journal though-I may have to start one of those after this week. I gave myself the first month of breastfeeding to eat whatever I want. One of the great things about breastfeeding. I have been trying to read a book too, I'm sure you will have more luck than me.

Those Twilight books are addictive. I read them all in a few days!

Inspiring me to write down goals. Good luck with yours and your marathon.
